I absolutely love the month of September!   Yes, I’m going to miss the lazy hazy days of summer, synonymized by care-free hours spent soaking in the sun, swimming, or barbequing on the deck.  However, I equally love the subtle changes that occur as days grow cooler and nights longer.

For many it’s the time of year to “take stock” of what’s important as we shift our focus inward.  You might be getting ready for back-to-school, making a DIY to-do list before winter, or negotiating with Aunt Edna about who’s doing Thanksgiving this year! In that same vein, retailers may be excitedly stocking shelves getting ready for the upcoming “shopping season”.

September is a month of change. Change of seasons can force us out of our everyday grooves making us rethink what we do, when we do it, and how we do it.  For instance, you may find yourself waking up later or going to bed earlier as a result of having less daylight.  While we can more easily rely on seasonal changes to force physical changes in our lives, it is up to us to make conscious change.  In other words, conscious change only happens when you make the decision to change. Seasonal changes won’t influence you to go out and buy FT products.  But as the seasons change and you decide on your priorities, they may help you to make the choice to buy Fair Trade.

At the heart of conscious change is believing that change is necessary in the first place.  Why is your purpose. Why ignites your passion, Why gives you the energy to make change.  Why is personal to you!  I can’t tell you why you should buy Fair Trade, nor can anyone else.  You must believe in it yourself.  I can tell you why I buy it, or share other’s reasons for buying FT, at the end of the day you must have your own Why.

As we welcome the autumnal equinox, take stock of what’s important to you, assess your Why, then allow yourself to fall into Fair Trade!
