9 Principles unite us, FTF launches site to hightlight them!

Submitted by editor on August 18, 2010 – 4:21 amOne Comment

On July 1, 2010 the Fair Trade Federation launched FairTradePrinciples.org to explain the Fair Trade business model and inspire others to adopt trading practices that distribute power, risks, and rewards more equitably.

The site offers real world examples from Federation members for nine principles of Fair Trade. Members have undergone a rigorous screening process to assess their full commitment to these principles in all of their work.

“Trade should promote fair compensation, safe and healthy conditions, long-term relationships, transparent business practices, and workplaces free from discrimination and forced child labor,” says Federation executive director Carmen K. Iezzi. “When trade encompasses these elements, the lives of people and their communities improve.”

Made possible through the generous support of the Catholic Relief Services’ Fair Trade Fund and designed by the Washington DC-based firm Vizualle, FairTradePrinciples.org serves as a lasting tool to explain how entrepreneurs can alleviate poverty, reduce inequality, and create opportunities for people to help themselves.
Since 1994, the Fair Trade Federation has served as the trade association that strengthens and promotes North American organizations fully committed to Fair Trade. The Federation is part of the global Fair Trade movement, building equitable and sustainable trading partnerships and creating opportunities to alleviate poverty.
